PHILANTHROPY

AEPhi is passionate about philanthropy.

Please take a moment to review this video to learn about the causes (both national and local) that we care so much about. You will see how our members not only raise much needed funds, but volunteer and perform hands-on community service. We hope this inspires you to get involved and support these wonderful causes in any way you can.

Sharsheret (National)

Sharsheret, Hebrew for "chain", is a national not-for-profit organization that supports Jewish women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer and those at high risk for hereditary cancer. Sharsheret, was founded in 2001 by Rochelle Shoretz (Iota Alpha, alumna initiate), of blessed memory, a former law clerk to United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Kappa Chapter, Cornell University). Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (National)

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation seeks to prevent pediatric HIV infection and to eradicate pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation was adopted as one of AEPhi's national philanthropies in 2000. The Foundation was founded in 1988 by AEΦ Alumna Elizabeth Meyer Glaser and her two close friends AEΦ alumna Susie Bernstein Zeegen (Xi Chapter, University of Southern California) and Susan DeLaurentis, shortly after Elizabeth and her husband, Paul, discovered that she, along with their two children Ariel and Jake, were infected with the AIDS virus as a result of a blood transfusion. We are proud to support this foundation. Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation (Omega Chapter)

The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation provides financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer, as well as childhood cancer research grants. In early 2019, we adopted an "honorary" member to AEPhi, a young boy named Eko. Eko was diagnosed with leukemia in June of 2018, and we have loved fighting alongside him and his family. Each year our members raise funds for our team directly through the B+ website, and we also donate the proceeds from our Round Up fundraiser event. Although we weren’t able to hold our Round Up event or do in person activities with Eko for the past few months due to COVID-19, we have kept in touch with him and his family through Zoom calls where we usually play Mario Kart, his favorite game. We are hopeful that we will get to do more socially distanced, outdoor events with Eko in the upcoming semester!

Greek Get Down (Omega Chapter)

Greek Get Down is a sorority-wide dance competition to raise money for our national philanthropy, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. This incredible organization strives to end pediatric HIV and AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention programs. The three sororities who are awarded the top dance performances from special guest judges are presented with a monetary donation for their own national philanthropy.
